March 11, 2010 -- Construction will begin soon on I-75 and I-275 in Monroe County. This two-year, $12.8 million project includes bridge rehabilitation, concrete pavement repair from the Ohio state line to I-275, and sign upgrading on I-275 from I-75 to the Wayne County line.

Starting today, crews will begin putting up advance warning signs. To accommodate this work, there will be shoulder closures in each direction on I-75 and I-275.

Lane closures are expected to begin starting the week of March 29.

During construction, there will be daytime single-lane closures and weekend and nighttime double-lane closures in each direction on I-75. On I-275, there will be shoulder closures and limited daytime single-lane closures.

For the bridge work, two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction on I-75 using a unique split-merge traffic system. This split-merge system maintains two lanes in each direction by crossing over one lane of traffic to the opposite side of the highway and maintaining a local lane on the original side of the roadway. Motorists must use this local lane to access interchange ramps including: Front Street (Exit 13), Elm Street (Exit 14) and Dixie Highway (Exit 15).

This split-merge traffic system is expected to be in place the weekend of April 10 and will remain active through late August.

Concrete patch work is expected to be complete in November. And the remaining bridge work will continue in the spring of 2011.
