March 16, 2010 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) today announced that contracting crews will begin the reconstruction of M-8 (Davison Freeway) on Monday, March 22, in Highland Park and Detroit. This section of M-8 is scheduled to open to traffic in October.
Included in the project are utility and lighting upgrades, and repairs to eight bridges between Oakland Avenue and M-10. Beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, the realignment of the freeway, east of I-75, will require the full closure of westbound M-8 from Conant to Oakland avenues. Westbound traffic on M-8 will be detoured north on Conant Avenue to westbound McNichols Road then southbound I-75, to connect with westbound M-8. During this time, eastbound M-8 will have a single lane open from I-75 to Conant Avenue.
This $17 million investment is made possible through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
