April 28, 2005 - - Gaylord area roadways will receive a special makeover just in time for the annual Alpenfest. Beginning May 2 (weather permitting), the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will mill and resurface one mile of M-32 from the I-75 interchange to Hayes Road and three miles of the I-75 Business Loop from Johnson Road to M-32 in Otsego County.
"This will get us closer to our statewide goal of having 90 percent of state roads (and bridges) in good condition by 2007," said MDOT spokesperson Bob Felt.
This road improvement project is expected to begin on May 2 and should be completed by mid-June. Some construction will occur at night in order to expedite the work. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction at all times. Motorists are encouraged to slow down in the work zone.
"We strive to get the job done while continually trying to make it more convenient for motorists to get around," said Felt. "No work will be done on weekends after Memorial Day and access to businesses will be available at all times."
This $566,240 preservation project is expected to extend the life of the roadways by several years (with routine maintenance). It continues a commitment by MDOT and the Granholm administration to create jobs, improve the quality of life and provide the highest quality transportation services for Michigan residents and businesses.
