Contact:  Rob Morosi 248-483-5127
Agency: Transportation

July 28, 2005 - - The second major stage in the reconstruction of I-94 in western Wayne County is scheduled to begin on Monday, Aug. 1, when contracting crews shift all traffic onto the newly rebuilt eastbound lanes between Rotunda Drive in Dearborn and M-39 in Allen Park. The shift is needed to accommodate the rebuilding of the westbound lanes and subsequent bridge rehabilitation. During the traffic shift, two lanes will be maintained for eastbound and westbound I-94 drivers.

The final stage of the traffic shift is expected to occur by Monday, Aug. 15, when crews will shift the remainder of westbound I-94 traffic onto the newly built eastbound lanes from Wyoming Avenue in Detroit to Rotunda Drive.

Once the traffic shift has been implemented, all westbound I-94 entrance and exit ramps between Wyoming Avenue and M-39 will be closed with the exception of the Schaefer/Gate 10 exit ramp. Westbound traffic will be allowed to exit at Addison Avenue to westbound M-153 (Ford Road) to access local streets east of M-39. Access to M-39 from westbound I-94 will be maintained throughout the duration of the traffic shift. Westbound entrance ramps that will remain open include Livernois Avenue in Detroit, M-39 in Allen Park and Pelham Road in Taylor.

For eastbound motorists, access to eastbound I-94 will be limited to Pelham Road, southbound M-39 and Weir Street in Detroit. Eastbound I-94 exits that will remain open during the traffic shift include Pelham, M-39, Oakwood Boulevard, Schaefer Avenue/Gate 10, Greenfield Road and Wyoming Avenue.
