Agency: Transportation

August 12, 2005 - - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin road repairs on M-37/M-44 (East Beltline) and M-21 (Fulton Street) in Kent County.

The project, which is scheduled to begin Friday, Aug. 19, and be completed in late October, includes 0.5 miles of resurfacing and more than four miles of concrete joint repairs on M-37/M-44 (East Beltline) from M-11 (28th Street) to I-96. Concrete joint repairs on M-21 (Fulton Street), from M-37/M-44 (East Beltline) to I-96, also are included in this project.

"The East Beltline is an important corridor for the entire Grand Rapids Metro area," said Erick Kind, acting manager of MDOT's Grand Rapids Transportation Service Center. "Once this project is completed, motorists will appreciate and benefit from the smoother roads."

During this construction, M-37/M-44 (East Beltline) will have shoulder closures in addition to single-lane closures throughout the weekend and off-peak hours. M-21 (Fulton Street) will have single-lane and shoulder closures during daytime hours. For current information about lane closures, visit the MDOT Lane Closure Web site at www.michigan.gov/laneclosure, or call the toll-free West Michigan Road Repair Hotline at 888-305-PAVE [7283].

This $1.9 million project will improve ride quality and is expected to extend the life of these roads by approximately six years. It continues a commitment by MDOT and the Granholm administration to create jobs, improve quality of life, and provide the highest quality transportation services for Michigan residents and businesses.
