August 30, 2005 - - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin work Tuesday, Sept. 6, on M-11 (Wilson Avenue/Remembrance Road/Ironwood Drive) from Hayes Street to north of M-45 (Lake Michigan Drive), and on M-45 (Lake Michigan Drive) from the Kent/Ottawa county line to east of Manzana Drive.
"Wilson Avenue and Lake Michigan Drive are becoming increasingly important corridors for the growing community of Walker," said Erick Kind, acting manager of MDOT's Transportation Service Center in Grand Rapids. "This project will ensure that these roads will continue to serve the community for many years to come."
The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-October and includes approximately 5.25 combined miles of cold milling and asphalt resurfacing. Throughout this project, the work on M-45 (Lake Michigan Drive) and M-11 (Wilson Avenue/Remembrance Road/Ironwood Drive) will require nightly lane closures. During the paving operation, segments of M-11 (Wilson Avenue/Remembrance Road) will be reduced to one lane of alternating traffic, which will be maintained by flag control. Throughout this work, intermittent shoulder closures will be required during daytime hours.
This $1.2 million project will improve the ride quality and is expected to extend the service life of these roads by approximately seven years. It continues a commitment by MDOT and the Granholm administration to create jobs, improve quality of life, and provide the highest quality transportation services for Michigan residents and businesses.
