Michigan Construction Quality Partnership formed

Contact:  Bill Shreck, MDOT Director of Communications, 517-335-3084
Agency: Transportation

April 27, 2006 - - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is partnering with the American Council of Engineering Companies, the Asphalt Pavement Association of Michigan, the Michigan Concrete Paving Association, the County Road Association of Michigan, the Federal Highway Administration, the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association, and the Michigan Road Preservation Association to form the Michigan Construction Quality Partnership. State Transportation Director Kirk Steudle introduced the partnership at the April 27 meeting of the State Transportation Commission. The partnership charter was signed by leaders of the eight organizations.

"This formulates a partnership focused on quality and continuous improvement of the state's transportation system," Steudle said.

The charter calls attention to the importance of Michigan's highway network as an essential element of Michigan's transportation infrastructure. The partnership will work together to continuously improve all aspects of highway design and construction. The initial efforts will focus on the training and development of both the public and private workforces involved in the design and construction of highway projects.

Steudle commented on the partnership's commitment to continually improve quality as a means of supporting Michigan's economic growth and its ability to compete successfully in the world marketplace.

"Every improvement we make to our transportation system will further Michigan's ability to attract and retain jobs and residents," Steudle said.
