WHAT: Join state dignitaries, special guests, children, and volunteers, as Travel Michigan officially opens two universally accessible playgrounds that will serve to welcome all children and families to Michigan. The playgrounds are part of the "Able to Play" project that resulted in 19 Boundless Playgrounds being built statewide. Michigan is the first state to build accessible playgrounds at its Welcome Centers, as well as the first state to establish a statewide network of universally accessible playgrounds for children of all abilities.

BACKGROUND: This effort will help continue Michigan's leadership in promoting access and rights for citizens with disabilities. These playgrounds, located at two of the state's most-visited Welcome Centers, will symbolize Michigan's commitment to providing recreational access for all. The Able to Play project also demonstrates the importance of play in the emotional, cognitive, and physical development of all children, regardless of ability.
