MDOT makes final decision regarding M-36/Pettys Road improvements in Livingston County

Agency: Transportation

May 29, 2009 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has finalized plans and will move forward in adding a center-turn lane on M-36 at Pettys Road in Hamburg Township. Work will begin after the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

"We have considered numerous options and made every effort to respond to the concerns of the local community, while still moving forward to make the needed repairs," said MDOT Brighton TSC Manager Mark Geib. "We are confident we can make the repairs in the time frame allotted and improve safety and traffic flow at this location."

To make repairs to the pavement and accommodate the center-turn lane, the contractor, Pamar Enterprises of New Haven, will close M-36 near Pettys Road for 14 days or less starting in early July. The contractor will be assessed penalties of $10,000 a day to ensure the roadway reopens in the 14-day time frame.

Once the roadway reopens, one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction on M-36 for the remainder of the project. Traffic on Pettys Road will be maintained at all times.

All work on this $920,000 project is expected to be completed in late August, prior to the beginning of the school year.

For updates on this project, go to the list of statewide lane closures on the MDOT Web site at: www.michigan.gov/drive.
