BACKGROUND: The I-75 Ambassador Bridge Gateway Project is a $230 million economic development initiative designed to improve mobility for commercial traffic at the international border crossing and remove truck traffic from neighborhood streets.

As part of the project, MDOT closed I-75 from Rosa Parks Boulevard to Clark Street in downtown Detroit on Feb. 25, 2008, with the planned reopening in December 2009. However, with construction consistently running five months ahead of schedule, MDOT will reopen this critical section of I-75 on Thursday, July 2, in time for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

At the celebration, MDOT officials will thank the Mexicantown community and more than 100,000 daily commuters for their patience and cooperation, and give a project update.

MDOT: Working to improve our state roads and bridges.
