Oct. 20, 2009 -- After seven months of detours and reconstruction, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has completed work on M-51 over Peavine Creek in Cass County, and the road is expected to reopen to traffic at 7 p.m. tonight.
In March, MDOT was forced to close M-51 from Crystal Springs Road and Peavine Road, between Dowagiac and Niles in Cass County, to replace the culvert over the Peavine Creek.
"We're glad this project is completed, and I'm pleased with the outcome," said Paul South, MDOT Coloma Transportation Service Center manager. "We're especially grateful for the patience and understanding of the local residents and businesses while we worked on the solution for this unexpected challenge."
