M-39 (Southfield Freeway) resurfacing begins Thursday, Oct. 8, in Detroit

October 5, 2009 -- Contracting crews are preparing to start a $3 million investment to resurface 6 miles of northbound and southbound M-39 (Southfield Freeway) beginning Thursday, Oct. 8, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). The resurfacing work, between McNichols Road and M-153 (Ford Road), will be limited to nights and weekends.

While most of the resurfacing work will be done in spring 2010, crews will begin preliminary work this fall. Weather permitting, it is anticipated that the left lane in each direction will be resurfaced before the onset of winter.

In order to accommodate the resurfacing, crews will close two lanes weeknights beginning at 9 p.m. and ending by 5 a.m. the following morning. During weekend work, double- lane closures will begin 9 p.m. Fridays and remain in place until 5 a.m. Mondays.

All work is scheduled to be completed by mid-July 2010. This project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
