Filing a Freedom of Information Request

How do I make a Freedom of Information request?

Requests for public records must be submitted to MDOT's Freedom of Information Officer in writing by U.S. Mail,  facsimile, or online as follows:

How long does it take to receive information requested under the Freedom of Information Act?  
After receiving a request for a public record, a public body has five business days to respond. The public agency may extend the time by 10 business days by notifying the requester in writing.

 
Will I be charged for information requested under the Freedom of Information Act?  
Fees may be charged for the necessary copying of a public record for inspection or providing a copy of a public record to a requester. A public body may also charge for search, examination and review and the deletion and separation of exempt from nonexempt information . MDOT's Freedom of Information Act fee schedule includes, but is not limited to, $19.80 per/hour for labor and 17 cents for each 8½" x 11" page.
