Michigan's first state financed bicycle path   1973. (It was built next to M 99, between Hillsdale and Jonesville.) 

Michigan is one of only two states that have mandatory minimum funding provisions for non motorized transportation. The other state is Oregon

Michigan ranks second in the nation in the number of rail-to-trail conversions with 109 (behind Pennsylvania at 113).

Michigan ranks second in the nation in the number of miles of rail corridor that have been converted to trails at 1,311 miles. (Wisconsin is first with 1,394 miles.)

The longest trail in Michigan is the State Line Trail in the Upper Peninsula, between Wakefield and Stager (102 miles). Stager is located a few miles south of Alpha.
