MDOT Logo History, 1905 - Current

MDOT Logo 1974-1978

1974 - 1978
The combination of seal, name and shield was retained until 1974, when legislative action gave the department a new name. To better describe its activities, the word "Transportation" was added to indicate the department was now involved in aviation, mass transit, and freight movement, as well as roads and bridges. With the addition of the word "Transportation," the shape of the logo was changed to an oval with a triskellion in the center. The triskellion provided the background for an outline of the state, with the same State Seal in the mitt-shaped Lower Peninsula.
