Romanesque Style Architecture located along M-25 in Bay City
This style of architecture built from the 1880s to early 1900, was always constructed of brick or stone. Because of this it was generally used for commercial or institutional buildings rather than residential buildings. Only the wealthiest members of a community would have been able to afford this style for their homes. Not only was it costly but it took a lot of time for the actual construction. In addition to the construction materials, Romanesque structures are also known for round masonry arches. These were placed over windows and porch entrances. Towers are a very common feature usually attached to the front corner of the building. Different textures (for instance combining rough-cut stone and brick) and different colors of masonry, were used to give the building an interesting appearance.
