• A $50 million investment to widen M-59 from two lanes to three lanes in each direction between Crooks and Ryan roads.
• Included in the project are the repairs to six bridges: Auburn, Rochester, John R, Dequindre and Ryan roads, and Livernois Avenue.
Stage 1:
- July-November 2009: Reconstruct the outside shoulders on M-59, repair bridge decks on the Livernois, Auburn, and Rochester road bridges over M-59. Widen the median portions of the M-59 bridges over John R, Dequindre, and Ryan roads.
- November 2009-February 2010: Work on the median portions of the M-59 bridges continues. Construct the median portion of the Gibson Drain.
Stage 2:
- March-June 2010: Reconstruct and widen M-59 in the median. Complete the widening of the M-59 bridges over John R, Dequindre, and Ryan roads.
Stage 3:
- July-October 2010: Reconstruct the outside lanes of M-59 and replace the
outside portion on the M-59 bridge decks over John R, Dequindre, and Ryan roads. Resurface the easterly ramps at the M-59/Crooks Road interchange. Reconstruct the ramps at the M-59/Rochester Road and M-59/Dequindre Road interchanges.
Stage 4:
- November 2010: Complete grading and constructing guard rail in the M-59 median.
- December 2010: Open all lanes and ramps to traffic.
Stage 5:
- May-June 2011: Off-peak lane closures to clean and paint the structural steel on the Livernois, Auburn, and Rochester road bridges over M-59. Landscaping and final restoration. In addition, M-59 will receive safety improvements including a new Motorist Information System, guard rails, and roadway signing.
