What we are doing

Starting in early spring of 2007, MDOT will oversee improvements along the M-59 corridor. The project involves:

  • widening M-59 to a four-lane boulevard
  • ramp improvements at the M-59/I-96 interchange
  • road resurfacing
  • drainage improvements, traffic signal upgrades and curb and gutter repairs.

The project also involves total replacement of three bridges on M-59:

  • over the CSX Railroad,
  • over the Shiawassee River
  • over the Great Lakes Central (GLC) Railroad.

An enhancement grant will allow for a new nonmotorized path and wooden boardwalk to be built along the corridor.
