What we are doing

Starting in March 2007, MDOT will begin a two-year project to resurface more than 11 miles of eastbound and westbound I-94 between Masonic Blvd in St. Clair Shores and M-29 (23 Mile Road) in Chesterfield Township. Included in the project is the construction of a concrete median barrier between North River Road and M-59, and rehabilitation to 10 bridges between Cotton Road and Harper Drive.

In 2007, the following work is scheduled:
  • Resurface eastbound I-94 from Masonic Blvd to 23 Mile Road.
  • Resurface westbound I-94 from M-59 to Masonic Blvd.
  • Repair the overpasses that carry Cotton and 21 Mile roads over eastbound and westbound I-94.
  • Repair the bridges that carry east- and westbound I-94 over Harper Road, Crocker Road, Joy Road, and the USAF spur track.
  • Construct a concrete barrier wall on I-94 between M-59 and North River Road.
In 2008, the following work is scheduled:
  • Resurface westbound I-94 from 23 Mile Road to M-59.
  • Resurface all interchange ramps within the project limits.
  • Install rumble strips on freeway shoulders.
  • Landscape within the project limits.
