A $46 million investment to rehabilitate eight bridges and repair 4 miles of pavement in Oakland County.
The project limits are between Beck and Halsted roads, including the I-96/I-696/M-5 interchange in the cities of Novi and Farmington Hills.
Included in this project is repair to eight bridges:
Eastbound I-96 over CSX Railroad (between Beck and Novi roads);
Westbound I-96 over CSX Railroad (between Beck and Novi roads);
Novi Road over I-96;
Meadowbrook Road over I-96 (overpass closed for one month);
Westbound M-5 connector to westbound I-96 over eastbound I-696;
Halsted Road over I-696 (overpass closed for 4 ½ months);
Orchard Lake Road over I-696; and
10 Mile Road over I-96/I-275.
How traffic is affected:
Traffic will be maintained on I-96 at all times throughout the project.
During peak hours (5 a.m. to 8 p.m.), three lanes will be maintained in each direction on I-96 from Beck Road to the I-96/I-696/M-5 interchange. The two-lane entrance ramp from northbound I-275 to eastbound I-696 will be reduced to a single lane in coordination with bridge work at Halsted and Drake roads.
During off-peak hours (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.) and at all times on weekends, expect I-96 and I-696 to be reduced to two lanes in each direction.
The ramps from Novi Road to eastbound I-696 will be closed from April through November.
The ramp from southbound M-5 to westbound I-96 will close for three months.
The ramps from southbound Orchard Lake Road to eastbound I-696 and from northbound Orchard Lake Road to westbound I-696 will close for three weeks.
