Project 3: Macomb County

Start: September 2008       End: November 2009

What we are doing:

  • A $24 million project to rehabilitate 22 bridges on I-696. Fifteen of the bridges are located within the I-696/Mound Road interchange and the remaining bridges are located between Dequindre Road and Schoenherr Highway.
  • The remaining seven bridges include:
    Eastbound 11 Mile Road over I-696 (two bridges);
    Ryan Road over I-696;
    Meredith Drive over I-696;
    Sherwood Avenue over I-696;
    Fairfield Avenue over I-696; and
    El Capitan over I-696.
  • Also included is the reconstruction of 12 ramps, drainage and lighting upgrades within the interchange.

How traffic is affected:

  • Expect shoulder closures at any time.
  • Expect single lane closures on I-696 at any time.  Expect multiple lane closures on I-696 during off-peak hours (8 p.m. to 5 a.m.) on weekdays and at all times on weekends.
  • Ramp closures are necessary for reconstruction and will be coordinated in order for motorists to access I-696 and/or Mound Road during construction.
