| Cultural Resources |
The US-31 Planning Team will be responsible for identifying and evaluating potential cultural resources associated with this project. The cultural resources the US-31 Planning Team will look for include:
Architectural resources, such as houses and other buildings that are or may be historic
Other above-ground resources, like gardens, parks, and cemeteries
Archaeological sites.
During the architectural study, the Planning Team will photograph buildings, draw maps, talk to landowners, and study the local history by looking at documents and books in libraries, tax offices, and archives.
Archaeologists from the Planning Team will walk through the project area looking for evidence of sites on the ground. They will also dig shallow holes to look for buried sites, and they might conduct thorough excavations if they find an important site or if there is the potential to find an important site.
Community involvement plays an important role in these studies. Exhibits will be prepared and displayed at all public information meeting to keep landowners and other interested parties informed of project activities. Citizens having cultural resource concerns are encouraged to participate in these meetings which will be posted on this web-site. Individuals desiring more information regarding cultural resources work being performed within the study area are encouraged to contact us.
