BACKGROUND: MDOT is investing $3.15 million to study the future traffic needs on the Blue Water Bridge Plaza. The Blue Water Bridge is the second busiest U.S./Canadian border crossing for commercial traffic and the fourth busiest overall for total traffic between the two countries. The study began in September 2002 and will take up to 18 months to complete now that the required environmental document has been upgraded from an Environmental Assessment to a more extensive Environmental Impact Statement.

The meeting is an open forum style format to encourage the public to stop in, meet with officials, and view – and - comment on the two updated practical alternatives still under consideration for potential plaza improvements. The practical alternatives provide detailed layouts including expanding the plaza at its existing location in Port Huron, and potential relocation of plaza facilities to Port Huron Township.

Members of the public will be able to view exhibits, including the study area, purpose and need, study processes, environmental issues, and alternatives. Comment forms will be available for participants to comment on the alternatives, identify concerns, and offer suggestions.
