I-75 Corridor in Oakland County
The I-75 corridor in Oakland County continues to be the focus of major growth of all sorts. An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) study
completed in January 2006 articulated the need for improvements to the freeway including additional capacity in the form of a High Occupancy
Vehicle (HOV) lane for "rush hours" which is approximately four hours a day. An HOV lane allows two or more people carpooling or taking the
bus to drive in that lane during the specified hours. In the remaining hours, the lane would be a general freeway lane open to all drivers,
regardless of the number of occupants for these "non-rush hour" times. Carpool lots will be constructed in the vicinity of the freeway's
corridor to encourage carpooling and the use of this HOV lane. Other improvements were identified to the drainage system, the interchanges,
and others. All of the proposed improvements will provide for the safe and efficient
movement of traffic along the corridor.
Design activities for this project have been deferred. There is no money available to move to this next phase of the project. The chart below
indicates the studies and approvals that have been received to date, the current phase of study (the engineering report study) and the remaining,
unfunded phases (design, right-of-way and construction) for completion.
The Engineering Report study phase has begun and will further examine complex, engineering elements in detail while still trying to refine impacts
to the local community. This Engineering Report study is expected to take two years to complete. As the analysis begins, updates will be
provided on this website. To be added to the mailing list or to have any questions answered regarding the I-75 Corridor Oakland County
Engineering Report study, please call 1.877.GOFIX75 and someone will return your call. |
