MDOT conducts applied research to find innovations that will improve the state's transportation system. The Office of Research & Best Practices recognizes that a complementary component of research is learning how others have found solutions to transportation challenges similar to Michigan's.
During the course of the research cycle - from program development to implementation - ORBP seeks to identify and take advantage of best practices regionally, nationally and internationally. Its goal is to find the best ways to meet MDOT's needs throughout the organization and around the state. While recognizing best practices of others, ORBP also showcases example of its own best practices by communicating to other agencies the successful implementation of research in Michigan.
