 Director

General Overview: The Director of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is appointed by the Governor of Michigan. MDOT is reponsible for planning, building, and maintaining Michigan's transportation system, which includes:

  • highways and bridges,
  • public transit,
  • rail freight and passenger systems,
  • airports.

The mission of MDOT is to provide the highest quality transportation services for the economic benefit and improved quality of life for Michigan's citizens and visitors. The director of MDOT is responsible for overseeing the activities of all employees and implementing the policies and programs that are critical to the department's mission.
