On July 1, 2009, the Bureau of Passenger Transportation submitted the following American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grants to FTA:
MI-96-X022: This grant will provide FY 2009 ARRA Urbanized Area Formulas funds in the amount of $531,429 to be used by four transit agencies in the State of Michigan for the purchase and installation of mini hybrids in existing vehicles to improve fuel efficiency. The project will involve the purchase, installation, and testing the mini-hybrid components. The use of this system is said to increase fuel economy by 10%, eliminate the use of hydraulic fluids, and reduce maintenance costs and curb noise. The components will be used to retrofit/refurbish transit buses and will be tested and evaluated in daily transit services.
This grant was approved by FTA on November 4, 2009.
MI-86-X001: This grant will provide FY 2009 ARRA NonUrbanized Area Formula funds in the amount of $13,262,714 to be used by 22 recipients in the State of Michigan for replacement vehicles, equipment purchases, facility renovations to improve safety and/or meet Americans with Disabilities Act requirements, continuation facility construction projects, one facility purchase/renovation, and program administration.
This grant was approved by FTA on August 27, 2009.
