Through the efforts and a unique partnership between Federal Transit Administration, MDOT's Bureau of Passenger Transportation, the City of St. Ignace and Indian Trails, a beautifully designed and newly constructed intercity bus facility is set to greet intercity bus passengers as they travel through northern Michigan. Located just northeast of the Mackinaw Bridge along U.S. 2 in St. Ignace, the 2,800 square foot facility will provide intercity travelers a welcome oasis and transfer point to any one of four state subsidized routes in Michigan.
Funding for the new facility was provided by the State of Michigan and the Federal Transit Administration. The City of St. Ignace was responsible for overseeing the facility construction and will provide ongoing maintenance oversight at the facility. Indian Trails who is the current contract provider for intercity bus services in Michigan, provided considerable input into the design of the facility.
Indian Trails has announced it will begin providing intercity service at the new transportation facility on September 21, 2009.
