Clare County broke ground September 25, 2009, for a $3.7 million, 44,000-square-foot transit facility in Harrison. The new facility will contain storage space for 40 buses, dispatch, maintenance and administration. Storing the buses inside will protect them from the elements and reduce fuel consumption by cutting the idle time needed to warm the buses during the winter months. Many energy-saving ideas and materials will be used to make the building "green." Funding for the project came from Congressional appropriations and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The facility is expected to be completed by summer 2010.
