The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has ongoing government-to-government communication with 12 federally recognized sovereign Tribal governments whose lands are situated within Michigan. MDOT has a Tribal Affairs Coordinator whose primary role is to serve as a point of contact for Tribal governments and to facilitate communication and problem resolution on transportation-related topics.
