MDOT puts transportation dashboard on the Web

Contact:  Jeff Cranson, MDOT Director of Communications, 517-335-3084
Agency: Transportation

January 24, 2012 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has reinvented its transportation dashboard on the MDOT Web site to track the department's performance in achieving specific transportation-related goals. The dashboard, along with other public reports, such as the quarterly highway bridge safety report, MDOT Strategic Plan, Five-Year Transportation Program and Transportation System Performance Measures Report, can be quickly located by clicking on the "MDOT Performance" tab on the right-hand side of the Web site at www.michigan.gov/mdot. Now, performance measurement documents that appear elsewhere on the MDOT Web site appear in one convenient place.

"MDOT has been documenting performance measures all along and making this information available to the public," said State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle. "With this move, we are making it easy for citizens to track our progress. Performance measurements are critical to our commitment to deliver the highest quality transportation services and encourage accountability, innovative thinking and making the best use of our limited resources. MDOT has the best transportation workforce in the country, and we will get even better as we measure and improve."

Steudle said the new "MDOT Performance" section of the department's Web site would be updated frequently and expanded in coming months.

"MDOT wants to be transparent about our efforts to work better, faster, cheaper, safer and smarter for Michigan citizens," he said. "We encourage citizens to use e-mail, regular mail or social media to let us know how we are doing and suggest ways we can improve."

MDOT reminds drivers: Snowplows need room to groom.
