Work begins this week on I-96 between Howell and Williamston

COUNTIES: Ingham and Livingston HIGHWAY: I-96 CLOSEST CITY: Fowlerville START DATE: Friday, May 11, 2012 REOPENING DATE: August 2012 PROJECT: The Michigan Department of Transportation will make improvements along a stretch of I-96 in eastern Ingham and Livingston counties starting the second weekend in May. Work includes pavement patching and shoulder upgrades, along with bridge repair at structures over Deer Creek, Doan Creek and the Red Cedar River. TRAFFIC IMPACTS: During construction, there will be single-lane closures in each direction at night and on weekends. All work is scheduled to be complete by the end of August.
There will be single-lane closures starting at 9 p.m. on Friday until 5 a.m. on Monday for a total of 10 weekends. No work will take place on special event weekends or holidays.
Nighttime closures will take place between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. the following morning, Monday through Thursday.
Motorists are encouraged to plan extra time and to watch for traffic slow downs.
