Fast Facts:
- The Black River will be closed to snowmobiles from mid-January until the spring thaw.
- Crews will be constructing necessary support elements for the new Black River Bridge.
- This work is part of the overall $90 million investment to reconstruct and widen the I-94/I-69 freeway.

January 23, 2012 -- Ongoing construction of the new I-94/I-69 bridge over the Black River in Port Huron will require crews to close the river to snowmobiles from mid-January until the spring thaw. Crews need to create an open-water condition in the area in order to construct the support elements of the new Black River Bridge. In addition, the banks of the river will be used for safe equipment storage.

Currently, crews are waiting for the area of the river approaching the construction area to completely ice over so signs and barricades can be placed.

The new Black River Bridge is part of a $90 million investment to widen and reconstruct I-94/I-69 between Lapeer Road and the Blue Water Bridge. More information on this project is available at www.michigan.gov/mdotprojects.
