Michigan Transportation Hall of Honor

Transportation Hall of Honor The Hall of Honor, a permanent display in the Van Wagoner Transportation Building in Lansing, was established in 1971 to honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to transportation in Michigan. Members are elected by a committee representing a wide range of transportation industry organizations. 2006 Inductees

• Mary Rawlinson Creason An aviation educator and the first woman pilot in state government, Creason served as deputy director of MDOT's Bureau of Aeronautics from 1977 to 1988.

• Patrick E. Hackett Author of the Michigan Railroad Code of 1993, Hackett made outstanding contributions to Michigan railroads throughout his distinguished legal career of 49 years.

• Earl F. Rogers (1922-2006) The engineer-director of the County Road Association of Michigan (CRAM) from 1965 to 1987, Rogers was a leader in many transportation initiatives, including the state's comprehensive needs study, Critical Bridge Program, development of seasonal roads and the Michigan Natural Beauty Road Act of 1970.

• Cora V. Taylor (1884-1971) Taylor was the first woman in the United States to be issued a chauffeur's license and co-founder of Indian Trails Bus Line.

• Robert A. Welke Robert A. Welke served from 1996 to 1997 as State Transportation Director, making numerous contributions to Michigan's transportation system, including decentralizing the Department, and promoting the use of recycled materials in highway construction.

• Allan M. Williams (1892-1979) Among other accomplishments, Williams introduced the first publicly accessible roadside picnic table on state government right-of-way in 1929.
