M-24 (Lapeer Road) Reconstruction, Lapeer County

Start: March     End: Mid-October 2015

What Is Being Done?

Crews will reconstruct 1 mile of M-24 (Lapeer Road) from Demille Boulevard to Nepessing Street in Lapeer, replace the bridge and culvert over Farmers Creek, and install a new pedestrian tunnel.

In addition to road construction, work includes:
- storm and sanitary sewer,
- water main and hydrants,
- sidewalk and signal upgrades,
- curb and gutter replacement, and
- shoulder improvements.

All side street approaches within the project limits will be included in the reconstruction.

Access to all businesses will be maintained throughout the project.

This two-year, $17.5 million investment included reconstructing M-24 from I-69 to Demille Boulevard last year.

How Will Traffic Be Affected?

Work will begin on the southbound lanes, with one lane of traffic open in each direction on the northbound lanes. Once that work is complete, traffic will be shifted to the southbound lanes to allow work to begin on the northbound lanes.

Once northbound and southbound reconstruction is complete, crews will place the final layer of asphalt.

Left turns will only be allowed at intersections with traffic signals.

A detour will be in place between Demille Boulevard and Genesee Street for culvert work from July 7 to Sept. 25.
