I-94 BL (Michigan Avenue) reconstruction

Start: April 2017     End: December 2017

What Is Being Done?

Starting this spring, I-94 Business Loop (BL) (Michigan Avenue) will be reconstructed between Brown Street and Louis Glick Highway/Washington Avenue in downtown Jackson. In addition, Louis Glick Highway and Washington Avenue, both one-way roadways, will be converted to allow two-way traffic.

Improvements on I-94 BL include new concrete pavement, new street lighting, storm sewer upgrades, water main replacement, sanitary sewer upgrades, traffic signal modernization, new sidewalk on the south side of Michigan Avenue, and a new nonmotorized path along the north side of Michigan Avenue.

Louis Glick Highway and Washington Avenue will be upgraded at intersections to allow for two-way traffic. That work will include intersection radius improvements, pavement marking upgrades, and traffic signal modernization.

How Traffic Will Be Affected:

During construction on I-94 BL, one lane of eastbound traffic will be open, with westbound traffic detoured along Wildwood Avenue and Brown Street.

During construction on Louis Glick Highway and Washington Avenue, at least one lane of traffic will be open in each direction. Work will be completed first on Washington Avenue, then a two-way traffic pattern will be used on Washington.
