M-6 Reconstruction

Start: July 8, 2017     End: November 2017

Update: Eastbound M-6 open as of Sept. 14.

What Is Being Done?

The Michigan Department of Transportation will replace about 4 miles of pavement on M-6 from I-196 to just east of Wilson Avenue.

Safety Benefit:

This project will improve the ride quality and extend the service life of the road.

How Traffic Will Be Affected:
  • Westbound M-6 will close Aug. 24 between Wilson Avenue and I-196.
  • One lane will remain open between US-131 and Wilson Avenue through mid-September, then access will be allowed up to Byron Center Avenue for approximately one month while the Wilson Avenue interchange is reconstructed.
  • Through-traffic should follow the posted detour onto northbound US-131.
  • Eastbound M-6 will reopen shortly after Labor Day weekend and westbound M-6 is scheduled to open early November.
