US-12 in Ypsilanti (Proposed Changes)

MDOT and the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) are proposing to shift traffic on US-12 and Wiard Road from a one-way boulevard to a two-way configuration. The American Center for Mobility (ACM) proposes to create an all-weather, connected and automated vehicle test track facility on the site of the former Willow Run Assembly plant. Portions of the US-12 and Wiard Road right of way, freed up by the traffic shift, may be used for the ACM highway loop.

On US-12, all traffic operations would shift from the current westbound lanes to the eastbound lanes, which would then carry two-way traffic near the former Willow Run Assembly plant.

Modifications also would be needed on Wiard Road. MDOT and the WCRC held a public meeting on Sept. 21, 2016 to gather public input on the proposals.
