June 17, 2011 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation will close four streets in Port Huron on Monday, June 20, in order to construct the new Pine Grove Connector, part of the I-94/I-69 freeway improvement project currently under way.
The streets to be closed include:
- 11th Avenue between Pine Grove Avenue and Scott Street
- 12th Avenue between Scott and Harker streets
- Harker Street from Pine Grove Avenue to 10th Street
- Mansfield Street from Pine Grove Avenue west to I-94/I-69
In order to safely conduct this work, crews will permanently close the streets to traffic, then begin work to remove the pavement. The work is needed in order to facilitate the construction of the new Pine Grove Connector, which will join eastbound I-94/I-69 to the local street. A new traffic light will be added at Pine Grove Avenue to maintain traffic coming off of the freeway using the Pine Grove Connector.
In addition, Harker Street west of Pine Grove Avenue is closed to through-traffic.
This work is part of a $90 million construction project to improve safety and mobility on I-94/I-69 in St. Clair County. The two-year project will widen 2.2 miles of eastbound and westbound I-94/I-69 between Lapeer Road and Pine Grove Avenue, and replace the aging bridge over the Black River.
