Commissioner Helen Zeerip

Commissioner Helen Zeerip, (I) of Allegan, was appointed by Gov. Rick Snyder effective November 22, 2017.

Mrs. Zeerip is the President of Teddy's Transport, a trucking company based out of Holland, Michigan.  The Grand Rapids Business Journal recognized her as one of the Top Woman Owned Businesses for 2011 & 2013. In 2012 The Grand Rapids Business Journal announced her as one of the Fifty Most Influential Women in West Michigan. Also in 2012 Teddy's Transport received the Inc. 500 recognition for being one of the fastest growing companies in America. In 2013 The Michigan Division of the United States Small Business Administration announced Teddy's Transport as the "Family Owned Business of the Year." She is a triple time "Athena" nominee and "Athena" award winner in 2014. Teddy's Transport was also nominated for Michigan 50 Companies to Watch. In 2015 Teddy's Transport won the Impact Award from Michigan West Coast Chamber for the creation of"Grant Me Hope." In 2017 she won West Michigan Woman's "Brilliance Award for Inspiration."

Mrs. Zeerip is a Leadership Holland graduate and has served on the Curriculum Committee for four years as well as the Executive Committee.  She has served on the Michigan West Coast Chamber Board, Pathways MI Board and the Wings Home (Hospice) Board.  She is actively involved in the community currently serving on Davenport University's Maine College of Business Board of Advisors and the West Michigan Policy Forum Board of Directors as well as serving as President of Teddy's Transport Board and President of Grant Me Hope's Board of Directors.

Mrs. Zeerip volunteers for Love INC (In the Name of Christ) and has been a full time foster parent for 16 years.  She is married to Craig Zeerip and has five children, ranging in ages of 12-27 years old.  In September 2014 she founded "Grant Me Hope" a 501©3 marketing initiative focused on getting older children in foster care adopted before they age out of the system. Grant Me Hope is videotaping these children and airing them on TV in an effort to find them an adoptive family. She currently has foster children airing on four television stations in Michigan (WZZM 13 Grand Rapids, WXYZ 7 Detroit, WWUP 9 & 10 Cadillac, Traverse City and Sault Saint Marie) and three TV news stations in Ohio (WCPO 9 Cincinnati, WRGT 45 Dayton and WKEF 22 Dayton.). She has also presented a TED Talk regarding the plight of the foster child and the nonprofit she founded to make a positive difference in these precious children's lives.  She plans to take this initiative national and is working on expanding into another state currently.  She does regular speaking engagements.  In September of 2017 she was in Washington DC getting honored by Michigan Senator Gary Peters for her work with foster children from the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institutes "Angel in Adoption" award.

Mrs. Zeerip's commission will expire on December 18, 2018.
