Lynn Afendoulis, Vice Chair
Commissioner Lynn Afendoulis, (I) of Grand Rapids, was appointed by Gov. Rick Snyder effective December 28, 2012, and reappointed to a second three-year term on December 23, 2015. On March 24, 2016, she was designated Vice Chair.
Ms. Afendoulis is director of corporate communications at Universal Forest Products, Inc., a nearly $3 billion manufacturer of wood and wood-alternative products, where she is responsible for public and investor relations, internal and external communications, and community affairs.
A 2011 graduate of Leadership Grand Rapids, she is often asked by city and business leaders to lend her communications expertise to community issues and projects. She currently chairs the Grand Rapids Student Advancement Foundation and has served on the boards of several nonprofit organizations, including Opera Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth, Circle Theatre, and her church, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
Prior to joining Universal in 2003, Ms. Afendoulis worked for the former Greystone Group, a consulting firm with offices in Washington D.C., Grand Rapids, and Chicago, and was a reporter for The Grand Rapids Press and The Tampa Tribune. She graduated from Michigan State University in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in journalism. Most importantly, she is the mother of Katharine and Evan, who are her inspiration for engaging in the business and future of this great state.
Ms. Afendoulis's commission will expire on December 21, 2018.
