With help and guidance from Michigan's Management Support Organization (MSO) Network, in addition to many leaders of the nonprofit, government, and private sectors, the Michigan Nonprofit Association has developed Principles & Practices for Nonprofit Excellence in Michigan (P&P). P&P is the cornerstone of MNA's Capacity Building efforts, and specifically targets Michigan's 501(c)(3) corporations. The training and resources MNA offers around the following Principles & Practices provide a planning and assessment framework to advance nonprofit performance and drive mission achievement:
- Planning
- Governance
- Human Resources
- Financial Management
- Evaluation
- Transparency and Accountability
- Fundraising
- Public Policy and Advocacy
- Communication
- Information and Technology
- Strategic Alliances
- Volunteer Engagement
MNA offers a variety of programs and services that target these 12 principles and increase the organizational capacity of nonprofit organization programs, staff, board members, and other volunteers. These include:
- Conferences - MNA offers several conferences throughout the year, including Michigan's Nonprofit SuperConference, the state's largest gathering of nonprofit professionals.
- Workshops - On an annual basis, MNA provides regular classroom style trainings, workshops, and webinars. These events all include formal and informal opportunities for participant interaction.
- Customized Trainings - MNA provides custom training for boards of directors, collaborative groups, and other cohorts on specific topics. Customized training may be a self-contained vehicle for learning and information or may serve as a precursor to more in-depth consulting.
- Statewide Training Calendar - In addition to these services, MNA also offers members access to a statewide training calendar, containing numerous capacity building opportunities provided by Michigan's MSO Network throughout the state. http://www.mnaonline.org/Events.aspx.
