    Mentor Michigan's Training & Technical Assistance

    Mentor Michigan offers training and technical assistance to mentoring programs on a variety of topics.  Are you looking to start a mentoring program? Are you new to the mentoring field? Do you need assistance in implementing the Quality Program Standards for Youth Mentoring? Would you like help training your mentors?

      Mentor Michigan's newest video tutorials  , providing step-by-step instructions on a variety of MentorPRO features. The tutorials are housed on the Michigan Community Service Commission's YouTube channel.



    2013 Collaborative Mentoring Webinar Series. The 2013 Collaborative Mentoring Webinar Series is a series of free webinars about innovations and best practices in youth mentoring. These webinars are offered on the third Thursday of every month from a collective group of leading mentoring organizations throughout the country. Each webinar will focus on a different area of interest and are offered free of charge.

    The September webinar will be held on September 19 at 1:00 p.m. EST and is entitled, "Readiness Matters: The Importance and Impact of Mentor Training." This webinar will feature Dr. Janis Kupersmidt, co-author of the “Mentor Training” chapter in the Handbook of Youth Mentoring, Second Edition, who will share her work on the importance of mentor training in creating high-quality mentoring relationships and ways to incorporate evidence-based practices into your trainings. In addition, this webinar will highlight research on the state of training practices in the field and findings on barriers to implementing training for mentors. It will also review best practice recommendations on mentor training content and discuss training throughout the mentoring life cycle – pre-match, early after the match and on an ongoing basis – as well as effective methods for delivering knowledge- and skills-based training.  For more information on the webinar or to register for the event,

    Building a Successful Mentoring Program: Definition and Recruitment Plan
    In this webinar, we will review Standards 1 and 2 of the Quality Program Standards. We will explore the definition of youth mentoring; discuss tips and strategies for finding and recruiting mentors, and identify the components of a comprehensive recruitment plan.

    Building a Successful Mentoring Program: Matching Strategy and Monitoring Matches
    Join us for this webinar to learn about Standards 5 and 6, which explore strategies for establishing and monitoring matches. In this session we will discuss the elements of a matching strategy, including possible criteria and recommendations for determining and making a match. In addition, we will discuss the importance of ongoing support and supervision to the success, satisfaction, and duration of a match; look at the progression of mentoring relationships; and the frequency and purpose of checking in with mentors and mentees throughout the duration of the match.

    Building a Successful Mentoring Program: Mentor Support, Recognition, & Retention and Match Closure
    Join us for this webinar to learn about Standards 7 and 8, focusing on mentor support, recognition, and retention, as well as match closure procedures. In this webinar, we will examine how to support and provide recognition to mentors and other volunteers for their hard work and will discuss the importance of using a formal match closure procedure. We will identify a variety of methods of providing ongoing mentor support, training, supervision, and recognition; as well as explore the key aspects of a match closure procedure.

    Match Closure Analysis
    Join us for this webinar to learn how your program can approach match closure analysis. We will discuss which closed matches to review and what areas of your program to review.     Mentoring Immigrant & Refugee Youth - A Toolkit for Program Coordinators Webinars
    Join Mentor Michigan during a webinar to explore "Mentoring Immigrant Youth: A Toolkit for Program Coordinators." This toolkit is designed by MENTOR to help mentoring organizations better understand and serve America's growing immigrant and refugee youth population.

    The Toolkit has 10 modules addressing topics such as population characteristics, an immigrant youth needs assessment, recommendations for working with these populations, defining program parameters, cultural competence topics, and matching mentors with immigrant youth.

    Men in Mentoring Toolkit Webinars
    Recruiting male mentors is one of the toughest challenges mentoring programs face in Michigan.  Mentor Michigan has created a toolkit designed to provide program staff and their trained mentor recruiters with language and tips to use when making the ask. These materials take you through the steps to recruit male mentors in a variety of settings and addresses the main components of a complete recruitment message. View the

    On April 28, 2010, Mentor Michigan was invited to present their Men in Mentoring Toolkit webinar on a national level for MENTOR. The presentation, provided to 392 participants, centered on the types of language and tips to use when recruiting male mentors. Information on how to recruit men in a variety of settings was also discussed.

    MentorPRO Webinars
    MentorPRO is a comprehensive, user-friendly, online data tracking and analysis system that helps youth mentoring programs manage their Programs, monitor their mentoring Relationships, and evaluate Outcomes. In this webinar, Mentor Michigan will describe the key functions and features of MentorPRO as well as provide information about bringing MentorPRO to your program. This webinar is ideal for new staff members who may be unfamiliar with MentorPRO as well as mentoring organizations that may be interested in bringing MentorPRO to their program.
