The Executive Staff of the Michigan Gaming Control Board is composed of the Executive Director and three Deputy Directors.

Richard S. Kalm, Executive Director
Mr.. Richard S. Kalm was appointed by Governor Jennifer M. Granholm on March 29, 2007 as Executive Director of the Michigan Gaming Control Board.
Mr. Kalm, the Executive Director of the Michigan Gaming Control Board, oversees a staff of 119 full-time employees, 20 part-time employees and is responsible for the direction, execution, and coordination of all activities related to the regulation of commercial gaming and horse racing in Michigan. Mr. Kalm, of Romeo, most recently served more than 30 years in law enforcement with the Office of Sheriff for Macomb County retiring as the Chief of Staff.
Mr. Kalm is a graduate of Wayne State University, holds a professional certificate from the University of Virginia and is a graduate of the 172nd session of the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. His professional training includes the Criminal Justice Leadership Academy at Lansing Community College and Critical Incident Management at Northwestern University. He is a member of the Southeastern Michigan Chiefs of Police, the FBI National Academy Associates and North American Gaming Regulators Association. Mr. Kalm is committed to the Gaming Control Board's Mission "to ensure the conduct of fair and honest gaming to protect the interests of the citizens of the State of Michigan."
On January 17, 2010, the Gaming Board, as a result of Executive Order 2009-45, has taken over the duties of the Office of the Horse Racing Commissioner.
