EXECUTIVE STAFF

The Executive Staff of the Michigan Gaming Control Board is composed of the Executive Director, Assistant Director and four Deputy Directors.

Richard S. Kalm, Executive Director
Mr. Richard S. Kalm was appointed Executive Director of the Michigan Gaming Control Board by Governor Jennifer M. Granholm on March 29, 2007, and was reappointed by Governor Rick Snyder for a term expiring on June 3, 2019. As Executive Director, Mr. Kalm oversees a staff of 146 employees. He is responsible for the direction, execution, and coordination of all activities related to the regulation of commercial gaming, horse racing, and millionaire party charitable events in Michigan, along with the responsibility for oversight of compact compliance of the State's 23 tribal casinos. Mr. Kalm, of Romeo, most recently served over 30 years in law enforcement with the Macomb County Sheriff's office retiring as Chief of Staff.

Mr. Kalm is a graduate of Wayne State University, holds a professional certificate from the University of Virginia and is a graduate of the 172nd session of the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. His professional training includes the Criminal Justice Leadership Academy at Lansing Community College and Critical Incident Management at Northwestern University. He is a member of the Southeastern Michigan Chiefs of Police, the FBI National Academy Associates and North American Gaming Regulators Association. Mr. Kalm is committed to the Gaming Control Board's mission "to ensure the conduct of fair and honest gaming to protect the interests of the citizens of the State of Michigan."
