MICHIGAN GAMING CONTROL BOARD

RESOLUTION NO. 2003-06

A Board Resolution Acknowledging The Contributions and
Accomplishments of Former Board Member
Judge Geraldine Bledsoe Ford
and Commending Her For Distinguished and Honorable Service
to the Michigan Gaming Control Board and the
People of the State of Michigan

WHEREAS, the Michigan Gaming Control Board was statutorily created and charged with the responsibility of administering and enforcing the provisions of the Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act, as amended, Public Act 69 of 1997, relating to the proper licensing and regulation of casino gaming in the City of Detroit, as authorized by the Act; and,

 

WHEREAS, Geraldine Bledsoe Ford, the first African American female judge in Michigan, was duly appointed in March 1999, to serve as a member of the Michigan Gaming Control Board appointed by the Honorable John M. Engler, Governor of the State of Michigan with the advice and consent of the Michigan Senate; and,

 

WHEREAS, Judge Ford diligently and faithfully completed her first term as a member and was, thereafter, duly reappointed by Governor Engler to serve a second term in December 2000, as a member of the Board; and,

 

WHEREAS, Judge Ford effectively served the Board with distinction and made many valuable contributions to the Board during her membership on the Board. Her commitment, integrity, uncommon wisdom and expertise as a Board member ensured that the Board properly and effectively licensed and regulated casino operations to keep them free of corrupt influences and protect the public interest; and,

 

  WHEREAS, Judge Ford, having retired from the Third Judicial Circuit Court of Michigan after an illustrious 46-year career , rarely missed a Board meeting prior to an eight month battle with a serious illness which began in December. She served the Board and the People of the State of Michigan with honor and distinction during her tenure as a member and died while in service on October 4, 2003, and,

 

WHEREAS, Judge Ford's dedication, integrity, fairness, astute leadership, keen insight and prudent judgment as a member of the Board are well-recognized and appreciated by her Board colleagues, the Gaming Board staff and by the People of our State; NOW THEREFORE,

 

IT IS RESOLVED that the Michigan Gaming Control Board HEREBY ACKNOWLEDGES AND COMMENDS Geraldine Bledsoe Ford for her diligent public service and many valuable contributions and accomplishments as a member of the Board from March 3, 1999 to October 4, 2003.
