- Psychology and Crisis Response Course. This online course, offered by Johns Hopkins University, addresses three areas of crisis response, taking care of personal mental health needs, addressing the mental health needs of others, and the impact of terrorism on mental health.
- Psychological First Aid Competencies for Public Health Workers. This online course, offered by Johns Hopkins University, examines the change in public health policies regarding psychological first aid after September 11, 2001.
- U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs. This section of the website contains up to date information about PTSD and traumatic stress for Mental Health Care Providers.
You will find fact sheets on assessments, types of trauma, and treatment. In the Training and Education section there are links to handouts, manuals, videos as well as their new training program, PTSD 101.
- Psychological First Aid. This is an evidence-informed modular approach for assisting people in the immediate aftermath of disaster and terrorism: to reduce initial distress, and to foster short and long-term adaptive functioning. It is for use by mental health specialists including first responders, incident command systems, primary and emergency health care providers, school crisis response teams, faith-based organizations, disaster relief organizations, Community Emergency Response Teams, Medical Reserve Corps, and the Citizens Corps in diverse settings. There are also videos specific to ethnic minorities available.
- Minnesota Psychological First Aid Training. These training materials, designated as a national best practice strategy, can be used by behavioral health practitioners to train health department and school personnel to provide practical support during disasters. There is information tailored to local health department personnel, K-12 schools, providers, and self-care.
- Disaster Psychiatry Materials. This website, from the American Psychiatric Assocation, offers a collection of various disaster psychiatry resources prepared by the APA for use by mental health professionals and those involved with disaster preparedness.
- Fact Sheets for Psychologists. The American Psychiatric Association Task Force on Promoting Resilience in Response to Terrorism has produced nine fact sheets intended to assist psychologists seeking to foster resilience in a variety of populations, including adults, children, first responders, mental health workers, military families, older adults, people of color, primary care providers, and the seriously mentally ill.
- Federal Resource Collection on Disaster Behavioral Health. This resource collection contains a variety of federally produced disaster behavioral health materials. This collection is organized into three categories: general resources that cover a broad spectrum of topics, preparedness resources designed to assist in the process of developing and maintaining emergency plans, and response resources that address issues ranging from crisis counseling interventions to risk communication guides for public officials.
- Sidran Traumatic Stress Institute, Inc. This organization has developed educational programming, resources for treatment, support and self-help for individuals or organizations touched by the effects of trauma. Sidran also delivers workshops and trainings for professionals and para-professionals from healthcare, mental health, public safety and support networks like, schools, faith communities and more.
- Risking Connection. This training resource for organizations developing trauma-informed processes and systems, including mental health and addiction services, crime victim assistance, veteran and military family support, schools and child serving agencies, faith communities, and disaster victims. Risking Connection provides a 20-hour instructor-led workshop; starting in 2009, it will be also be available as an online training.
- Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Admnistration. This organization offers online training in the following areas: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in Disasters, Psychological First Aid Approaches, and Tips for Emergency and Disaster Response Workers.
