Michigan Health Alert Network

The Michigan Health Alert Network (MIHAN) is a secure web-based notification system created by the State of Michigan to alert key personnel of conditions that could adversely impact the health and safety of Michigan's citizens. The system also provides situational awareness about important but non-emergency health-related information.

Who Participates in the MIHAN?

MIHAN participants include key points of contact from the State of Michigan, local public health, hospitals, EMS agencies, Federally Qualified and Rural Health Clinics, Long Term Care facilities, and emergency management. Currently there are approximately 4000 MIHAN participants.

How do I sign-up to receive MIHAN alerts?

Contact a MIHAN Administrator to determine if you are eligible for a MIHAN account. If eligible, a MIHAN administrator will create an account for you and send you a MIHAN password and user name, along with instructions for setting up your account. Setting up your account involves:

  • Entering additional contact information
  • Setting a 4-digit phone Security Code
  • Selecting your Security Question
  • Selecting the methods of contact you would like the system to use to contact you for a low-, medium- or high priority alert.

MIHAN Alerts

MIHAN alerts are sent to roles within a particular geographical area; such as, a county, region or state-wide. Roles are assigned to each user account according to the job function a participant performs at an agency. Each MIHAN alert is sent at a low-, medium-, or high-priority level. Most MIHAN alerts are sent at low-priority. A low-priority alert contains important health-related but non-emergency information. High-priority alerts typically pertain to something that is highly communicable and /or lethal, and often call for immediate action. The MIHAN system can alert up to five methods of contact for each participant. Methods of contact include home and work email, text pagers, numeric pagers, work, home, and cell phones.
