Commuting by bicycle may be an option if you live 15 miles or less from your job and can identify safe routes to work. Even if you live more than 15 miles away from your job, you may be able to drive or take the bus for part of your route, or you can build up to a longer commute over time.
Depending on distance and traffic conditions, you might be surprised to find that biking to work may not add that much time to your commute. Biking is a great way to incorporate exercise into your daily routine without having to pay for an expensive gym membership or take extra time out of your day. You also may be surprised to find how much energy you'll have when you get to work and when you get back home.
Biking can save you money as well. The average cost of keeping an automobile running for a year is $3,000. For a bicycle, it's less than $300.
