Revenues By Category

Why it Matters: In fiscal year 2011, state government revenues totaled $55.8 billion. Taxes made up approximately 45% of state government revenues, while grants, primarily from the federal government, comprised 36%. This chart shows revenues are greater than revenue available for expenditures due to certain taxes and other revenues earned but will not be collected until future years.
