Civil War Battle Flags

Minnie Flag

Minnie's Flag
During the Civil War, people wanted to show their loyalty to the Union. Many people hand-sewed their own small cloth flags. Julia Wilbur made this flag for her niece Minnie Van Buskirk. Minnie wrapped herself in the flag as she watched her father, Joseph, march away to war with the Second Michigan Volunteer Regiment in 1861.
