NOVI, Mich. – The full-service Secretary of State Mobile Office is ready for business at the 22nd annual Spring Boating Expo, to be held March 13-16 in Novi, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson announced today.

"You can renew your watercraft registration, license plate tabs or driver's license at our convenient on-site mobile office," said Johnson. "Anything you can do in a brick and mortar office can be handled here, including getting new license plate tabs or changing your address. Take a few minutes and complete your Secretary of State business, then return to enjoying the latest in watercraft."

The Spring Boating Expo will be held at the Suburban Collection Showplace, 46100 Grand River Drive, in Novi. The show features the latest in ski boats, fishing boats, pontoons and personal watercraft. Visit for more information.

With more shoreline than any other state, Michigan currently has 902,519 registered boats. The Great Lakes state consistently ranks among the top five states for watercraft registration. Boat registrations are renewed every three years.

The Secretary of State's Mobile Office will be open during regular show hours, which are:

  • Thursday, March 13 – 2 to 9 p.m.
  • Friday, March 14 – 2 to 9 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 15 – 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Sunday, March 16 – 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

"The Spring Boating Expo is a great place to shop for a boat and a great place to register your boat," said Nicki Polan, MBIA executive director." The Michigan Boating Industries Association appreciates what Secretary of State Ruth Johnson has done to make registering a boat as easy and convenient as possible, especially with boating season just around the corner. Boating is big part of Michigan's heritage and future. Boating participation is growing again in Michigan with boat sales up 42 percent in 2013 and another 10 percent increase expected in 2014."

A free boating safety course is available during the show on March 15. Pre-registration is encouraged at The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Oakland County Sheriff's Department Marine Division will be offering the course.

Residents can also renew their watercraft at, the online, no-wait Secretary of State, which allows customers to access expanded online services without having to make a trip to a branch office.
